(UWM Photo\/Troye Fox)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>UW-Milwaukee&#8217;s Alvaro Saar Rios, assistant professor of playwriting and analysis in the Peck School of the Arts, received a Distinguished Play Award as the author of \u201cLuchadora\u201d \u2013 a play about a young girl who explores her family\u2019s heritage after she discovers a pink wrestling mask from the world of Mexican wrestling, known as <em>lucha libre.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The award from The American Alliance for Theatre &amp; Education was in the category of plays that are primarily for upper and secondary school age audiences.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to teaching, Rios is a professional writer and performer and is the co-founder of The Royal Mexican Players, a national touring performance troupe.<\/p>\n<p>Based in Bethesda, Maryland, The American Alliance for Theatre &amp; Education serves a collective of theatre artists, educators and scholars committed to transforming young people and communities through the
