The UW-Milwaukee School of Education and St. John\u2019s on the Lake are teaming to present a speaker series,\u00a0 \u201cTeaching \u2013 the New Reality.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first three scheduled sessions are April 14, May 16 and June 23. All are at 4 p.m. at the St. John\u2019s Cultural Arts Center, 1800 N. Prospect Avenue, South Tower. The series is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n

The speakers will discuss such topics as why fewer people are considering careers as educators, how the profession can be diversified, the impact of recent legislation and the role of research in improving teaching and learning.<\/p>\n

Speakers are:<\/p>\n

Thursday, April 14. Tammy Huth, director for Teacher Education, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, \u201cFinding personnel interested in taking the call to become educators.\u201d<\/p>\n

Monday, May 16. Alan Shoho, dean of the School of Education, \u201cLeading change during challenging times.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thursday, June 23 . Elise Frattura, associate professor of exceptional education, \u201cThe role of education in a marginalized society; how school leaders affect change.\u201d<\/p>\n

Barbara Michaels, an alumna and resident of St. John\u2019s on the Lake, helped organize the partnership. The committee organizing the events included: Hope Longwell-Grice, associate dean of the School of Education; Linda Post, associate professor of curriculum and instruction; Peppy O’Neil, alumna and retired UWM staff member; Dan Donder, Office of Clinical Experiences; and Carol Wacker, senior development specialist.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
