More than 1,000 nurse-scientists are expected to attend the 40<sup>th<\/sup> annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mnrs.org\/2016-annual-research-conference-program\">Midwest Nursing Research Society (MNRS) Conference<\/a> at the Wisconsin Center, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave. The focus of this year\u2019s conference is improving practice and enhancing health.<\/p>\n<p>Nine research studies on these topics will be spotlighted as \u201cAbstracts of Distinction,\u201d including one by Christine Kovach, professor of nursing at UWM. Kovach\u2019s work focuses on helping nursing staff assess and treat pain in elderly patients with dementia. The treatment protocol she has developed and tested helps nurses track patients\u2019 responses to treatments and avoid\u00a0ineffective, unneeded or inappropriate treatments.<\/p>\n<p>MNRS has more than 1,300 members in 13 Midwestern states and is one of the largest research organizations of its kind in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UW-Milwaukee is one of the sponsors of a major nursing conference, today through March 20.
