Brett Peters<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Brett A. Peters has been named dean of the College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM). Peters, a professor of industrial and systems engineering at Texas A&M University since 1992, will begin his new duties in Milwaukee Sept. 1.<\/p>\n

Peters\u2019 research interests include design, analysis, operation and control of manufacturing systems. In particular, he concentrates on design and management issues in flexible manufacturing systems, including facility layout and material-handling systems.<\/p>\n

UWM Chancellor Michael Lovell says he is impressed by Peters\u2019 accomplishments at a top-tier engineering school. \u201cWhat I really like about [Peters] is he’s very collaborative in nature and understands what we\u2019re trying to accomplish here in Milwaukee,\u201d says Lovell. \u201cHe sees the opportunity with all the engineering firms we have in our back yard to really work together, collaborate and go after some great things.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his tenure at Texas A&M, Peters was actively involved in significant interdisciplinary initiatives, including the Texas A&M Energy Engineering Institute and the Department of Defense\u2019s University Affiliated Research Center for Systems Engineering Research.<\/p>\n

As CEAS dean, Peters will take up the job that Lovell began by nurturing UWM\u2019s involvement in the Wisconsin Energy Research Consortium (WERC), the Milwaukee-based organization that brings together industry and the state\u2019s largest engineering schools to stimulate research discovery. He will also lead the construction and research programming at Innovation Park, UWM\u2019s technical park campus in Wauwatosa.<\/p>\n

Peters earned his master\u2019s and doctoral degrees in industrial engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, and a bachelor\u2019s degree in engineering from the University of Arkansas. Before joining Texas A&M, he was an independent consultant in facility design and material handling, and an associate consultant for SysteCon, a Coopers & Lybrand Division in Atlanta.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
