Jun Kim, whose work with Puccini’s “Suor Angelica” earned him a top conducting award.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Jun Kim, director of orchestral activities and music director of the UWM Symphony Orchestra, won the 2015 American Prize in Conducting for his work in the opera \u201cSuor Angelica,\u201d produced at UWM. Kim was a prizewinner of the 2013 Orquesta de Cordoba Conducting Competition in Spain and 2012 Black Sea Conducting Competition in Romania.<\/p>\n

Open to all United States citizens, The American Prize is a series of non-profit national competitions in the performing arts designed to recognize and reward best performances. Winners in each category receive cash and award certificates.<\/p>\n

Among Kim\u2019s credentials are appearances with many international orchestras, such as the State Symphony Orchestra of Russia, St. Petersburg State Symphony and Winnipeg Symphony. Trained as a violinist, Kim has played numerous recitals and has given violin master classes and performances at colleges in the United States and in his native Korea.<\/p>\n

Since coming to UWM in 2012, Kim has conducted many operas, including Maurice Ravel\u2019s \u201cL\u2019Enfant et les Sortileges,\u201d which was the UWM Symphony Orchestra\u2019s first collaboration with Milwaukee Opera Theatre.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
