UWM students and employees can now pay for parking by phone with an app from Parkmobile.com.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

New shuttle routes, a parking app and student parking permits are among the changes in store for campus commuters this year, as UWM\u2019s Parking & Transit office seeks to reduce costs and increase convenience. Here\u2019s a look at what to expect:<\/p>\n

Shuttles<\/strong><\/p>\n

The UPark shuttle service from the Capitol\/Humboldt now stops at Kenilworth Square and two spots on the main campus, both on Maryland Avenue. One stop is in front of Sandburg Hall, and the other is outside the Student Union.<\/p>\n

The shuttles are scheduled to run every 15 minutes, with service from UPark beginning at 5:30 a.m. and ending at 8:45 p.m. on weekdays. The last departure to UPark is at 8 p.m. on Fridays.<\/p>\n

The shuttles made seven stops last year. Routes were consolidated to save money amid budgetary constraints, said Prasanna Nanda, director of Parking & Transit. UPark is funded through student segregated fees.<\/p>\n

Students who need transportation to UPark after shuttles stop running for the night can call Be On the Safe Side (B.O.S.S.) at 414-229-6503. That service operates from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.<\/p>\n

Shuttles also are available from the main campus to the School of Freshwater Sciences, USRB, Innovation Campus and Zilber School of Public Health from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Riders must call 414-229-7431, and a dispatcher will arrange for a shuttle pick up.<\/p>\n

Parking app<\/strong><\/p>\n

In-car parking meters are scheduled to be eliminated by Dec. 31, replaced with a parking app for smartphones. The Parkmobile.com app allows users to pay with the app, their desktop computer or a phone call. Employees receive a 15-percent discount if they register with the Parking & Transit office in the Student Union.<\/p>\n

Drivers using in-car meters will not be able to add money to their accounts after Sept. 30. They can begin using the Parkmobile.com app immediately. In some cases, using the app will be less expensive than the in-car meter.<\/p>\n

Parking permits and rates<\/strong><\/p>\n

Student parking at the Northwest Quadrant and Klotsche Center garages is no longer free. Permits cost $50 per month and are sold out through November. A \u201climited number\u201d are available for December, Nanda said. Students may purchase permits for multiple months at a time.<\/p>\n

Staff parking permit sales are slightly ahead of last year\u2019s, Nanda said. Sales at the Klotche Center have seen the greatest increase, largely because of a decrease in the annual rate from $1,450 to $900. Sales have been slower at the Northwest Quadrant, where permits cost $1,080.<\/p>\n

Parking & Transit will introduce online, self-service accounts and mobile auto license plate recognition for the spring 2016 semester. With that change, parking enforcement officers will scan license plates to check for parking permission, and drivers will no longer need physical permits.<\/p>\n
