{"id":156889,"date":"2026-06-02T11:46:55","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T16:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=156889"},"modified":"2026-06-02T11:46:55","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T16:46:55","slug":"nmdsi-student-research-scholars-program-accepting-fall-applications","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/nmdsi-student-research-scholars-program-accepting-fall-applications\/","title":{"rendered":"NMDSI Student Research Scholars Program accepting fall applications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Applications are now open for fall 2026 funding for student research scholars through the Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute (NMDSI).<\/p>\n<p>Research is focused on the recently refreshed Center of Excellence areas, which are connected through the foundation category of Responsible AI and Data (Ethics, Bias, &amp; Equity):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>AI Excellence:<\/strong> Applied &amp; Novel AI<\/li>\n<li><strong>Talent Forward:<\/strong> Future-Ready Workforce<\/li>\n<li><strong>AI Readiness:<\/strong> Economic Vitality &amp; Financial Security<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The student research program is open to part- and full-time instructors and faculty at UWM. If students have a research idea, they must seek an eligible faculty member to be a sponsor-mentor for the project to be eligible for funding.<\/p>\n<p>Faculty play a critical role in mentoring and supporting proposal development. UWM instructors are encouraged to share this opportunity with students ahead of the July 12 application deadline.
