Naloxone \u2014 also known by the brand name Narcan \u2014 is the nasal spray medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. If you or someone you know is at increased risk for opioid overdose, carry Narcan and let others know you have it to keep yourself, your friends and your community safer.<\/p>\n<h3>Who should carry Narcan?<\/h3>\n<p>Carry Narcan if you or someone you know:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Uses opioids, such as morphine, heroin, or oxycodone; either alone or with alcohol\/other drugs.<\/li>\n<li>Uses other drugs, such as cocaine or methamphetamines, which can contain fentanyl without the user knowing. Fentanyl is a powerful opioid that can be lethal even in very small doses.<\/li>\n<li>Has an opioid use disorder.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Where can I get Narcan?<\/h3>\n<p>Narcan is available for free at 23 UWM campus locations. Check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/u\/0\/viewer?mid=1n8WgN8b-rA6t4LktHiFik0xq9MZ3cKk&amp;ll=43.26495888354284%2C-88.02615137417439&amp;z=10\">interactive map<\/a> to find the location closest to you.<\/p>\n<h3>Learn more<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/studentaffairs\/event\/learn-how-to-use-narcan\/2026-04-16\/\">Learn How to Use Narcan Event<\/a>: Pick up free Narcan on Thursday, April 16, from noon-3:30 p.m. in the Student Union Concourse. Pharmacy students from the Medical College of Wisconsin and staff from the Student Health and Wellness Center will provide brief demos on how to respond to a suspected overdose and how to give Narcan.
