Use only low-potency cannabis. And remember, it\u2019s OK to go substance-free, which is the healthiest and safest choice.<\/p>\n<h3>Avoid the witch\u2019s brew<\/h3>\n<p>Eye that punch bowl with suspicion. Know what you\u2019re drinking and steer clear of drinks in unmarked containers. Don\u2019t mix alcohol with other drugs, which increases the risk of serious side effects and overdose.<\/p>\n<h3>Beware of disguises<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Many knock-off pills sold on the street and through social media are made to look like legitimate prescription pills.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t be tricked \u2014 many of these counterfeit pills are laced with a deadly dose of fentanyl.<\/li>\n<li>Use a fentanyl test strip (available at the Student Health and Wellness Center dispensary and eighth floor waiting area) before taking drugs purchased anyplace other than a state-licensed pharmacy or dispensary.<\/li>\n<li>If you or someone you know uses drugs, carry Narcan, a safe medication that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. Free <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/wellness\/health-promotion\/alcohol-and-other-drugs\/narcan-at-uwm\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Narcan is available across campus<\/a> \u2013 grab a box to carry or keep in your house\/dorm before an emergency happens.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Who you gonna call?<\/h3>\n<p>Call 911 if an alcohol or drug overdose does happen. <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/deanofstudents\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/263\/2023\/12\/Medical-Assistance-Policies.pdf\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">UWM\u2019s medical assistance policy<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.legis.wisconsin.gov\/statutes\/statutes\/961\/iv\/443\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Wisconsin Good Samaritan laws<\/a> prioritize safety over citations for people who are drinking or using drugs.<\/p>\n<h3>Get help breaking the spell<\/h3>\n<p>Reach out if you think you or someone you care about has a problem with alcohol or other drugs. Please contact a professional at the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/wellness\">Student Health and Wellness Center<\/a> (https:\/\/uwm.edu\/wellness\/).
