The Department of Urban Planning in the School of Architecture and Urban Planning has established the Center for Equity Practice and Planning Justice to combat racial segregation.<\/p>\n

The center\u2019s mission is to promote the deconstruction and mitigation of segregation, which is the racialized making of place that reproduces poor community outcomes consistently at scale across a plethora of community well-being metrics. The center will advance its mission by promoting innovative planning practices, zoning and land use reforms, equity-driven economic development approaches, and public narrative construction that embraces inclusive communities.<\/p>\n

The Center for Equity Practice and Planning Justice’s inaugural launch and press event will take place in the Commons at the School of Architecture and Urban Planning on Friday, Oct. 25, from 10 a.m. to noon. Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson and Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley are confirmed to attend the event, and Congresswoman Gwen Moore is also anticipated, along with a host of strategic partners.<\/p>\n

Kirk E. Harris, professor of urban planning, has led the establishment of the center and is its founding director.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
