{"id":136799,"date":"2024-09-11T11:41:29","date_gmt":"2024-09-11T16:41:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=136799"},"modified":"2024-09-11T11:41:29","modified_gmt":"2024-09-11T16:41:29","slug":"records-101-an-introduction-to-public-records-records-management-and-open-meetings-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/records-101-an-introduction-to-public-records-records-management-and-open-meetings-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Records 101: An Introduction to Public Records, Records Management, and Open Meetings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>University employees are invited to attend a presentation about the proper handling of public records and meetings on Nov. 13.<\/p>\n<p>Join Colleen Ference-Burke, public records custodian; Jennifer Herzog, senior university legal counsel; and Derek Webb (records officer) will lead the presentation on the basics of fulfilling legal and policy requirements for open government as they apply to records and meetings.<\/p>\n<p>The speakers will address questions such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What qualifies as a record?<\/li>\n<li>When and how do you have to post public announcements of your meeting?<\/li>\n<li>What happens when a member of the public files a request for your records?<\/li>\n<li>How long you have to keep your records?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This presentation will take place at 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13. It will be held in hybrid format, in person in Golda Meir Library in the Archives Department classroom (room W315) and via Teams for virtual attendees.<\/p>\n<p>Please <a
