Interim Chancellor Mark Mone is directly behind him, while to the left are (from left) state Department of Workforce Development Secretary Reggie Newsome, Gateway President Bryan Albrecht and Snap-on CEO Nick Pinchuk.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em\">KENOSHA, WI \u2013 A new guaranteed transfer agreement between UW-Milwaukee (UWM) and UW-Parkside (UWP) provides students with a seamless pathway to complete a bachelor\u2019s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Under the agreement, students complete their first two years of coursework at UWP, then transfer to the College of Engineering &amp; Applied Science (CEAS) at UWM with junior standing. Those students are eligible to complete a degree in electrical engineering or mechanical engineering.<\/p>\n<p>The agreement is part of a larger partnership of universities, titled Technology Pathway Partners, designed to build a workforce stocked with technology and engineering skills. In addition to UWM and UWP, the collaboration includes Gateway Technical College. Its two-pronged strategy is to help students from middle school through college develop technical skills that industries need.<\/p>\n<p>The transfer agreement targets students on the older end of that continuum, giving undergraduates in the region a new way to earn an engineering bachelor\u2019s degree. A joint program between UWP and Gateway aims to produce more technology educators at the middle-school level by offering the state\u2019s first licensure-only post-baccalaureate program. The effort will address a growing shortage of technology and pre-engineering teachers.<\/p>\n<p>The capability of the workforce is the No. 1 consideration when business leaders decide where to locate a factory or company headquarters, said Snap-on Inc. Chairman and CEO Nick Pinchuk at an announcement of the partnership May 27 at the company\u2019s Racine headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mark Mone, UWM interim chancellor, said the Technology Pathway Partners will make a vital impact on STEM-related careers. \u201cThis is a monumental moment in so many ways,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is truly one of the types of relationships we can hold up and say: \u2018We get it and we understand the different elements that have to occur for us to make the type of differences that we are all looking for.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Students attending UWP in fall 2014 are eligible to participate in the transfer program, as well as any current UWP students who meet the enrollment and academic program requirements.
