As you prepare to celebrate Halloween, keep these tips in mind for a safe and spooktacular weekend, instead of a seriously scary one.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t over-\u2018boo\u2019 it<\/h3>\n

Use alcohol in moderation and sip instead of slam your drink. Use only low-potency cannabis. And remember, it\u2019s not paranormal to go substance-free (the healthiest and safest choice).<\/p>\n

Avoid the witch\u2019s brew<\/h3>\n

Eye that punch bowl with suspicion. Know what you\u2019re drinking and steer clear of drinks in unmarked containers. Don\u2019t mix alcohol with other drugs, which increases the risk of serious side effects and overdose.<\/p>\n

Beware of disguises<\/h3>\n

Many knock-off pills sold on the street and social media are made to look like legitimate prescription pills. Don\u2019t be tricked \u2014 many of these counterfeit pills are laced with a deadly dose of fentanyl.<\/p>\n

Know witch from which<\/h3>\n

Use a fentanyl test strip (available at local pharmacies) <\/span>before taking any drugs purchased anyplace other than a state-licensed pharmacy or dispensary. Avoid taking drugs that test positive for fentanyl, which is extremely dangerous.<\/p>\n

No magic wand<\/h3>\n

If an alcohol or drug<\/span> overdose does happen, <\/span>you\u2019ll<\/span> need more than a magic wand<\/span>. <\/span><\/span>Learn the signs of overdose and what you can do to help<\/a>. If you or someone you know uses drugs, carry Narcan, a safe medication that reverses the effects of an opioid overdose. Learn more about Narcan at UWM<\/a>. UWM\u2019s victim assistance policy<\/a> and Wisconsin Good Samaritan laws<\/a> prioritize safety over citations for people who are drinking or using drugs.<\/p>\n

No hocus pocus<\/h3>\n

Reach out if you think you or someone you care about has a problem with alcohol or other drugs. Please contact a professional at the Student Health and Wellness Center<\/a>.
