UWM will host a gallery night for five new exhibitions on its Milwaukee campus on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 4:30-7 p.m. Here are the exhibitions and their running dates:<\/p>\n
Union Fireside Lounge
\n2200 E. Kenwood Blvd.<\/p>\n
The Union Art Gallery\u2019s collection consists mainly of student artwork collected since the UWM Student Union building was constructed in the 1950s. This new exhibit in the Fireside Lounge includes recent acquisitions to the collection, added during the tenure of Union Director Richard Thomas, who retired in August 2022. Thomas was a tremendous supporter of the arts in the UWM Union, adding many student works as Director\u2019s Purchase Awards in the last decade.<\/p>\n
Emile H. Mathis Art Gallery
\n3203 N. Downer Ave.<\/p>\n
With loans from UWM\u2019s Special Collections, the Mathis Gallery presents “On Making Fairyland,” an exhibit of fairy tale and children\u2019s fantasy illustrations from the Golden Age of Illustration (1880-1930), exploring the ways artists such as Arthur Rackham, Kay Nielsen and Henry J. Ford translated traditional folklore and contemporary fantasy narratives from word to design and the visual trends used to depict imagined realms and their inhabitants.<\/p>\n
Center for 21st Century Studies

In January 2022, C21 launched a public survey collecting over 200 stories about loneliness and connection. This exhibition showcases 15 professional and community artists from campus, Milwaukee, across the nation and around the world responding to the survey responses and the general themes of the Lonely No More! symposia. The exhibit features photographs, print, paintings and film with accompanying audio and digital interactions.<\/p>\n

A joint UWM Special Collections\/UWM Union Gallery exhibition, UWM Creates is a retrospective of student\/alumni- and faculty-created artwork spanning nearly 65 years from UWM Special Collections and the UWM Union Art Gallery Art Collection.<\/p>\n
American Geographical Society Library
