{"id":111104,"date":"2022-09-02T13:10:37","date_gmt":"2022-09-02T18:10:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=111104"},"modified":"2022-09-02T13:10:37","modified_gmt":"2022-09-02T18:10:37","slug":"trauma-informed-care-workshops-offered-this-fall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/trauma-informed-care-workshops-offered-this-fall\/","title":{"rendered":"Trauma-informed care workshops offered this fall"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"s2\">Since summer 2021, a series of t<span class=\"searchHighlight\">rauma-i<\/span>nformed care workshops have helped students, academic departments and administrative units understand <span class=\"searchHighlight\">trauma<\/span>, its effects and how to support students, faculty and staff in distress.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">This fall, <\/span><span class=\"s2\">a new version of the program will focus on <span class=\"searchHighlight\">trauma-<\/span>informed pedagogy. Dimitri <span class=\"spelle\">Topitzes<\/span> (School of Social Welfare), Sarah MacDonald (Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning) and Adam Jussel (Dean of Students) are organizing this next series of highly interactive workshops. They will focus on how instructors can help students achieve essential learning outcomes through a balance of flexibility and accountability, high standards and care for students.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">The <span class=\"searchHighlight\">trauma-<\/span>informed care workshop can also be offered to staff and administrators upon request, focusing on similar goals \u2014 how staff and administrators can help students and each other.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"s2\">The workshops will last an hour and are scheduled on request. Workshops can be virtual or in person.
