UWM women’s basketball team earns bid to WNIT

The Panthers play on.

The UWM women’s basketball team has made the WNIT postseason tournament. The Panthers will face Drake University in the first round on Friday, March 19, at 8 p.m. at the UW Health Sports Factory in Rockford, Illinois. The game will be streamed online at FloHoops.

UWM earned the postseason berth after winning the Horizon League regular-season title and advancing to the semifinals of the conference tournament.

“It’s such a special season, given what the seniors have put into it,” UWM coach Kyle Rechlicz said. “We have five senior leaders ready to commit to this and I’m really looking forward to the opportunity.”

UWM enters the WNIT with a 19-7 record and is playing in its first postseason tournament since 2016. Drake, which has a 16-11 record, was runner-up in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament. It will be a rematch of a 2017 Preseason WNIT tournament game that Drake won 77-73. UWM is seeking its first win against Drake in nine attempts.

The Panthers are guaranteed two games in the tournament, and they’ll face Saint Louis or DePaul in either the winner’s or consolation bracket. Full tournament information is available at womensnit.com, and for full coverage of UWM women’s basketball, visit mkepanthers.com.
