UWM professors share research on local Muslims with Paris colleagues

UWM professors Caroline Seymour-Jorn, (French, Italian and Comparative Literature), Anna Mansson McGinty (Geography and Women’s Studies) and Kristin Sziarto (Geography) presented a seminar and led a workshop on the Muslim Milwaukee Project at the Université Paris-Est, March 15-17.

The researchers were invited by the Justice, Espace, Discriminations, Inégalités working group of the Labex Urban Futures to describe the project’s uniquely collaborative work with Muslim organizations in Milwaukee.

The project has conducted surveys on households and individuals with the assistance of the Islamic Da’wa Center and the Islamic Society of Milwaukee, and other local Muslim institutions, who have used the results to better serve their members.

The work has shed light on the diversity – both ethnic and religious – among local Muslims, and helped clarify the impact of Islamaphobia on the Muslim community.
