UWM move-in starts Aug. 27

UW-Milwaukee will be buzzing with back-to-school energy as students start moving into residence halls Tuesday morning, Aug. 27.

About 2,400 of the approximately 3,800 students moving into UWM residence halls next week are new first-year students at UWM. Sandburg Residence Halls, 3400 N. Maryland Ave., will begin welcoming residents starting at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Photographers and videographers will be able to take photos and shoot footage in the lobby and other common spaces at Sandburg from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Photographs or video can be shot in student rooms only by invitation from students occupying those rooms.

Arcetta Knautz, director of university housing, will be available to discuss the move-in week from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in the lobby of Sandburg Residence Hall. Parking is available on E. Edgewood Avenue, just north of the Sandburg towers.

More than 400 volunteers and housing employees will be on hand to assist students and families with the move-in. In addition to Sandburg, students will be moving into Cambridge (Aug. 27-28), RiverView (Aug. 27) Kenilworth (Sept. 1) and Purin (Aug. 27-29) during the week.

Among this year’s renovations and additions in UWM’s five residential communities are:
— A new movie theater/gaming room as well as a new dining option, the RiverView Eatery.
— Sandburg will have a new Student Leadership Resource Room/Collaborative Space.
— Renovations have started at the Sandburg Hall Towers to update facilities and improve ADA access.

Students will enjoy a week of fun and activities before classes start on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Fall Welcome events include a concert by Kesha, a campus campout, grocery bingo, crafts, a boat tour and trips to the Milwaukee Art Museum, Fiserv Forum, Miller Park and the Harley-Davidson Museum.
