UWM computers required to update to Windows 10

On Jan. 14, 2020, Microsoft will stop providing security updates or support for PCs running Windows 7. As a result, all UWM computers running Windows 7 must be upgraded or retired in the coming months.

UWM IT staff are working to ensure the upgrade process is as smooth as possible. In order make the transition to Windows 10 simpler, IT staff will do the following:

• Provide self-service upgrades to computers (wherever possible) so no service call to IT is needed.
• Migrate your data and applications manually, if needed.
• Work to ensure your hardware and software are compatible and fully functional after the upgrade.

Upgrading to Windows 10 will ensure that your devices will continue to receive security updates and will also grant you access to the newest features of Windows. In most cases, Windows 7 computers can be upgraded automatically to Windows 10. If it is determined that your computer cannot be upgraded automatically, you will be contacted directly to discuss the specifics of your upgrade.

Windows 7 can be identified from the log-on screen which will say “Windows 7” below the password box. If you are a Windows 7 user and wish to discuss your needs with IT staff, please contact Campus Technology Support.
