UWM to announce relocation of play ‘Arcadia’ following fire

MILWAUKEE _ Peck School of the Arts Dean Scott Emmons and others will be available at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 13, to discuss the relocation of the school’s Mainstage Theatre production, “Arcadia,” following a fire last weekend.

Emmons will announce the new location of the May 3-7 performances during a news conference in the Helen Bader Concert Hall at the Helene Zelazo Center for the Performing Arts, 2419 E Kenwood Blvd. There is short-term street parking next to the building.

Emmons, a faculty member and community partners will discuss:

  • the new location
  • work that must be done to replace sets, props and other items lost in the fire
  • community partnerships that are enabling the production to go on
  • learning opportunities resulting from the move.

The accidental fire that took place Saturday, April 8, appears to have started in the set/scenery shop in the Peck School’s theater building. That building suffered fire damage, and it and the adjacent music and art buildings have smoke and water damage. Classes have been temporarily moved to other locations on campus.
