UW-Milwaukee faculty experts can help media covering pandemic’s long-term impact on public health policy

MILWAUKEE _ The COVID-19 crisis could influence public health policy for years to come. University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee faculty members can assist media covering this topic and a range of other issues related to the pandemic. For example:

  • Mustafa Hussein, a health economist and social epidemiologist, can discuss how the spread of the disease may be exacerbated by social and economic inequality, how it may widen disparities, and the government policy response.
  • Economics professor Hamid Mohtadi can talk about his research into the impact of unexpected pandemics on public policy. He is analyzing national and global data in trying to determine whether the U.S. public health system could have been better prepared for COVID-19.
  • This is National Infertility Awareness Week. Assistant professor Maria Novotny can talk about how the coronavirus crisis has affected fertility treatments, including how infertility patients are using advocacy blogs and social media to discuss their situations. Novotny is co-director of The ART of Infertility, a national arts organization that supports the infertility community. She teaches rhetoric and professional writing at UWM.

A full list of experts can be found on UWM Report. The list will be updated regularly through the crisis. Please contact the UWM Media Services team at media-services-team@uwm.edu if you need help scheduling an interview.
