UW-Milwaukee creates faculty experts list to help media with coronavirus coverage

MILWAUKEE _ The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has created a faculty experts list to assist media covering the coronavirus pandemic.

UWM faculty and staff can provide context and analysis on a range of topics, from the latest public health developments to the impact of the crisis on the election, education and the economy. For example:

  • Epidemiologist Amanda Simanek can discuss public health strategies to manage the crisis and preventative measures that people can take to protect themselves.
  • Anne Basting, a professor of theater, can speak about creative ways to reach out to older adults in isolation. Basting is the founder of TimeSlips, a nonprofit organization that engages older adults through the arts and creativity.
  • The Wisconsin spring primary is scheduled for Tuesday. Sara Benesh, the chair of the political science department, can talk about the impact that the pandemic has had on the state Supreme Court election campaign. Paru Shah, an associate professor of political science, can discuss the impact on the presidential election campaign, as well as racial disparities in COVID-19 cases.

A full list of experts can be found by clicking here. The list will be updated regularly through the crisis. Please contact the UWM Media Services team at media-services-team@uwm.edu if you need help scheduling an interview.
