R1 celebration planned alongside research symposium April 5

In recognition of UWM’s renewed R1 status, an honor given to the top research universities in the country, Chancellor Mark Mone and the campus community will be hosting a celebration in conjunction with the 11th annual UWM Undergraduate Research Symposium on April 5.

UWM has maintained its R1 status since 2015 and is one of 130 institutions of the 4,338 universities evaluated in Carnegie’s “highest research activity” category. UWM’s work spans across 24 different research centers in various areas of study.

The Undergraduate Research Symposium will provide attendees a chance to meet with over 300 undergraduates to learn firsthand about their research. The recognition program will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Wisconsin Room of the UWM Student Union and will feature UW System President Ray Cross, with a reception to follow.

The event is free and open to the public. To attend, RSVP here.
