Nearly 4,000 moving into residence halls at UWM this week

MILWAUKEE _ Students will begin moving into residence halls at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

Nearly 4,000 students are expected to move in this week, including about 3,000 first year students. UWM has about 26,000 students in total. More than 1,000 students will be housed in the university’s Living Learning Communities.

New this year is upper-level student housing at RiverView Residence Hall, a housing community that combines the independence and privacy of apartment-style accommodations with the convenience of a university-managed building. Upper-level students are those who are sophomores or above.

Kelly Haag, the director of University Housing, will be available for interviews from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, in the lobby of Sandburg Residence Hall, 3400 N. Maryland Ave. There is parking available on E. Edgewood Avenue, just north of the Sandburg towers.

Photographers and videographers will be able to shoot footage in the lobby and other common spaces at Sandburg from 8:45 to 10 a.m. Photographs or video can be shot in student rooms only by invitation from students occupying those rooms.
