Cantwell studies the history of religion and politics in the United States. He also has an interest in American labor history.
Cantwell can talk about how religion shapes the ways that Americans see themselves and how the world sees America. Current projects include digitizing the histories of multifaith communities in the Midwest, writings on religion and politics in America, and a book on evangelicalism and nostalgia. He also has an interest in American labor history, and as a former museum professional, can speak to the politics of commemoration at museums, libraries and historic sites.
