ISS Project begins second implementation phase

The UWM Shared Services project, aimed at improving how core business and IT services are delivered, has kicked off planning for the second Shared Services Center and the completion of the campus-wide implementation of the new Campus Technology Support.

The prototype Shared Services Center and Campus Technology Support came online during the summer of 2018. Both are successfully providing services to the supported units, refining processes and practices, and learning continuously.

The second Shared Services Center (Hub 2) will support General Education Administration, School of Architecture and Urban Planning, Lubar School of Business, College of Engineering and Applied Science, Peck School of the Arts, School of Freshwater Sciences, Graduate School, Office of Research, UWM Libraries, School of Information Studies, School of Continuing Education and the College of General Studies. It is expected to begin operations in fall 2019. With the completion of the Campus Technology Support implementation, expected this summer, services will be provided to the entire campus.

The project, known as Integrated Support Services, started its implementation phase in January. The project teams have been identified and have begun their work. The leadership of the units supported by the second Shared Services Center have also been engaged in preliminary planning. The project website includes more information about the teams and project timeline.

Later this month, Hub 2 faculty and staff will receive more specific information about how they might be involved in planning. Project teams will be reaching out to learn about how services are currently delivered, as well as department, faculty and staff expectations for the transition to Shared Services. That process of data gathering is expected to run through March, and updates will be provided along the way.

For more information about the project, check out the FAQ portion of the Integrated Support Services website. Anyone with questions is invited to contact project organizers through an online form on the website.
