Feetham lecture event to focus on health of families with seriously ill children

The UWM College of Nursing is set to present a new addition in the Suzanne Feetham Lecture Series, featuring Pamela S. Hinds, PhD, RN, FAAN, on Monday, April 8, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the UWM Alumni Fireside Lounge.

Hinds is currently the executive director of the Department of Nursing Science, an endowed chair in Nursing Research, and research integrity officer at Children’s National Health System in Washington, D.C. For more than three decades, Hinds has created and led research related to the pediatric cancer experience, quality of life, fatigue and altered sleep during the treatment of pediatric cancers, and end-of-life communication and decision making.

Hinds’ lecture, “Protecting the Health of Families of Children Receiving Palliative Care,” will highlight the fact that families caring for seriously ill or dying children are at significant health risks themselves. Certain clinician behaviors appear to help protect families from the full impact of such risks.

This evidence-based discussion will link the risks and the clinician behaviors in an effort to further support our shared efforts to protect these at-risk families.

Attendees are asked to register for the lecture by April 1. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. A cash bar will also be available.
