Annual security training for faculty and staff

UW System has required all UW institutions to implement annual Information Security Awareness training for faculty, staff and other employees, including students, who have access to non-public University of Wisconsin System information.

UWM is committed to maintaining a secure digital environment that supports our mission of teaching, research and community engagement. UWM has determined that all faculty, staff and other employees, including student employees, could potentially access non-public information, and therefore should take the training, consistent with UW System’s directive. It is our expectation that UWM will strive for 100 percent completion for this training.

You will soon receive an email with your personalized link to an online course entitled: “Checkpoint: Data Security & Privacy”. This 90-minute course will cover a variety of topics, including how to recognize potential cyber attacks, phishing and online vulnerabilities. It will also review what applicable UW System and UWM policies you must adhere to and contact information for questions.

The training will be open from Oct. 1-31. Time spent taking the training is considered work-time for all hourly employees, including student employees. Supervisors will be asked to monitor completion to ensure that employees, especially hourly and student employees, have designated time to complete the training during regular work hours.

If you have any questions regarding the training, please contact the UWM Help Desk at (414) 229-4040 or at gettechhelp.uwm.edu.
