Actions to Take Before You Leave for Thanksgiving Break

There’s nothing like the smell of a homemade Thanksgiving dinner and spending time with loved ones. If you are traveling over break, there are a few things you should take care of before you leave your apartment behind. Read the following tips from the Neighborhood Housing Office so that your mind can be at ease this Thanksgiving Break!

Temperatures are dropping and that means snow is coming. Did you know that in the City of Milwaukee, you have 24 hours after snow has fallen to salt and shovel? Check your lease to see if you are responsible for shoveling your sidewalks and walkways. If you are going away for Thanksgiving, it is your responsibility to ask someone to shovel to avoid receiving a fine.

Remember to keep your thermostat at or above 67 degrees Fahrenheit to avoid your water pipes from freezing. Stay ahead of the weather by visiting UWMWeather for a complete forecast. You can also download the UWM Mobile app.

Lock the doors and windows of your unit and close all blinds and curtains. This will save you money on heating costs and deter theft. If you are leaving your car behind, remember to lock those doors too.

All of us at the Neighborhood Housing Office would like to wish you a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving Break!
