New Staff Development

Purpose

Initial training for new child welfare staff is designed specifically to meet the immediate needs of those entering case-carrying positions with DMCPS and its contract agencies. Initial training is designed to introduce new staff to Wisconsin Safety and Ongoing Services Standards and create basic proficiency in their roles within these standards. Initial training incorporates training required of all Wisconsin child welfare professionals.

Approach

Initial staff training occurs in phases (introductory to more advanced) paced and ordered to reflect best practices in adult learning, allow for graduated levels of application on-the-job and offer flexibility to both agency and individual learner needs. Initial training integrates formal instruction using standardized curricula, structured application exercises (classroom and in the field), strength-based feedback and skill evaluation. MCWP and agency staff collaborate to make sure classroom instruction can be clearly applied on the job.
