We consider the case in which one critical value lies in the immediate basin of an attracting cycle and the other critical value eventually lands in that immediate basin. Computer-generated images of the dynamical plane suggest the presence of both baby quadratic Julia sets and some sets which appear to be modifications of those. We present combinatorial models of the dynamics which help to explain this phenomena.<\/span><\/p>","excerpt":"","slug":"graduate-student-colloquium-kelsey-brouwer","image":false,"all_day":false,"start_date":"2024-10-11 12:30:00","start_date_details":{"year":"2024","month":"10","day":"11","hour":"12","minutes":"30","seconds":"00"},"end_date":"2024-10-11 13:30:00","end_date_details":{"year":"2024","month":"10","day":"11","hour":"13","minutes":"30","seconds":"00"},"utc_start_date":"2024-10-11 17:30:00","utc_start_date_details":{"year":"2024","month":"10","day":"11","hour":"17","minutes":"30","seconds":"00"},"utc_end_date":"2024-10-11 18:30:00","utc_end_date_details":{"year":"2024","month":"10","day":"11","hour":"18","minutes":"30","seconds":"00"},"timezone":"America\/Chicago","timezone_abbr":"CDT","cost":"","cost_details":{"currency_symbol":"$","currency_code":"USD","currency_position":"prefix","values":[]},"website":"https:\/\/wisconsin-edu.zoom.us\/j\/94983351854","show_map":true,"show_map_link":true,"hide_from_listings":false,"sticky":false,"featured":false,"categories":[{"name":"Graduate Student Colloquia","slug":"graduate-student-colloquia","term_group":0,"term_taxonomy_id":70,"taxonomy":"tribe_events_cat","description":"","parent":0,"count":32,"filter":"raw","id":70,"urls":{"self":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/math\/wp-json\/tribe\/events\/v1\/categories\/70","collection":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/math\/wp-json\/tribe\/events\/v1\/categories"}}],"tags":[],"venue":{"id":1865,"author":"166","status":"publish","date":"2014-11-13 15:54:53","date_utc":"2014-11-13 21:54:53","modified":"2015-09-18 16:55:57","modified_utc":"2015-09-18 21:55:57","url":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/math\/venue\/ems-building-room-e495\/","venue":"EMS Building, Room E495","slug":"ems-building-room-e495","address":"E495; 3200 N Cramer St.","city":"Milwaukee","country":"United States","state":"WI","zip":"53211","phone":"414-229-4836","website":"uwm.edu\/letsci\/math","stateprovince":"WI","geo_lat":43.0758771,"geo_lng":-87.885831199999998,"json_ld":{"@type":"Place","name":"EMS Building, Room E495","description":"","url":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/math\/venue\/ems-building-room-e495\/","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","streetAddress":"E495; 3200 N Cramer St.","addressLocality":"Milwaukee","addressRegion":"WI","postalCode":"53211","addressCountry":"United States"},"geo":{"@type":"GeoCoordinates","latitude":43.0758771,"longitude":-87.885831199999998},"telephone":"414-229-4836","sameAs":"uwm.edu\/letsci\/math"},"show_map":true,"show_map_link":true,"global_id":"uwm.edu\/math?id=1865","global_id_lineage":["uwm.edu\/math?id=1865"]},"organizer":[{"id":11640,"author":"4217","status":"publish","date":"2021-03-30 09:57:17","date_utc":"2021-03-30 14:57:17","modified":"2021-03-30 09:57:17","modified_utc":"2021-03-30 14:57:17","url":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/math\/organizer\/the-department-of-mathematical-sciences-3\/","organizer":"The Department of Mathematical Sciences","slug":"the-department-of-mathematical-sciences-3","website":"uwm.edu\/math","email":"math-staff@uwm.edu","json_ld":{"@type":"Person","name":"The Department of Mathematical Sciences","description":"","url":"http:\/\/uwm.edu\/math","telephone":"","email":"math-staff@uwm.edu","sameAs":"http:\/\/uwm.edu\/math"},"global_id":"uwm.edu\/math?id=11640","global_id_lineage":["uwm.edu\/math?id=11640"]}],"custom_fields":[],"json_ld":{"@context":"http:\/\/schema.org","@type":"Event","name":"Graduate Student Colloquium: Kelsey Brouwer","description":"<p>Combinatorial Models for Some Generalized McMullen Maps in the Case of Two Bounded Critical Orbits Kelsey Brouwer PhD Student University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee The family of generalized McMullen maps R(z)= z^n + b + a\/z^n has two independent critical …<\/p>\\n","url":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/math\/event\/graduate-student-colloquium-kelsey-brouwer\/","eventAttendanceMode":"https:\/\/schema.org\/OfflineEventAttendanceMode","eventStatus":"https:\/\/schema.org\/EventScheduled","startDate":"2024-10-11T12:30:00-05:00","endDate":"2024-10-11T13:30:00-05:00","location":{"@type":"Place","name":"EMS Building, Room E495","description":"","url":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/math\/venue\/ems-building-room-e495\/","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","streetAddress":"E495; 3200 N Cramer St.","addressLocality":"Milwaukee","addressRegion":"WI","postalCode":"53211","addressCountry":"United States"},"geo":{"@type":"GeoCoordinates","latitude":43.0758771,"longitude":-87.885831199999998},"telephone":"414-229-4836","sameAs":"uwm.edu\/letsci\/math"},"organizer":{"@type":"Person","name":"The Department of Mathematical Sciences","description":"","url":"http:\/\/uwm.edu\/math","telephone":"","email":"math-staff@uwm.edu","sameAs":"http:\/\/uwm.edu\/math"},"performer":"Organization"},"is_virtual":false,"virtual_url":null,"virtual_video_source":""}
