Dr. Daniel Bielich

In this talk, Dr. Bielich will share his experiences pursuing an advanced degree in applied mathematics and transitioning into industry. The focus will be on the wide range of career paths available to computational mathematicians. He will also discuss theoretical tools he has applied in practice, including low-synchronization orthogonalization, communication-avoiding algorithms, mixed-precision methods, eigensolvers, and mathematical software development in the context of high-performance computing (HPC).
The goal of the talk is to provide students with insight into how mathematical training translates to impactful work in industry, even when “numerical analyst” is not a common job title.
