Prospanica – Milwaukee Chapter

On Nov. 20th, the LEC hosted the Milwaukee chapter of Prospanica – a nation-wide organization of Hispanic MBAs and business professionals – for their 2021 Innovation Cohort. At the day-long event, about 50 students and sponsors participated in two working sessions that centered on the theme of innovation and career planning for Latinx collegiate students. Students and sponsors engaged in improv exercises, six-word stories, networking and elevator pitching to get participants to practice communicating in different formats in a supportive environment. The first session, titled “Storytelling Your Career,” challenged participants to tell their professional development stories in different formats. The goal of this session was to enhance students’ skills in articulating their career paths to potential employers. Session two was a panel discussion with four students from UWM, Marquette, and MATC. Panelists spoke about their professional development journeys and then answered questions from attendees. Sponsors worked alongside students for each exercise, describing their own journeys and providing valuable perspective for students looking to elevate their careers.

Various UWM departments sponsored Prospanica Milwaukee’s 2021 Innovation Cohort event including: the LEC, Lubar School of Business, and the Roberto Hernández Center. LEC Director Brian Thompson was a featured guest speaker and facilitated the first session. Todd Micholic from American Family Insurance was also a featured guest speaker, sharing his own experience in diversity recruiting at AmFam.

“The Career Planning workshop was phenomenal!”
