Portia Cobb Receives UWM Faculty Public Service Award

Portia Cobb, a Teaching Fellow at the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center, has been selected to receive 2021 UWM Faculty Distinguished Public Service Award. The ceremony will be at the Annual Fall Awards Ceremony, held at 10/13/21 in the UWM Ballroom.

This award recognizes outstanding service throughout the entirety of the state of Wisconsin. Contributions to the public good include lecturing and presentations, conducting or coordinating applied research, and serving as a resource on decision-making panels and boards.

Portia was selected for this award for her work with Voices of Gun Violence, a social innovation project that serves to collect stories of gun violence and how it affects victims, their families, and their communities. This is done to encourage healing, understanding, and community action. Voices of Gun Violence has collected over a dozen stories from members of the community and how gun violence has affected them. Portia serves as a Principal Investigator with UW Milwaukee in the organization.
