Wound Healing Analysis

Acute and chronic wounds are a challenge and burden to healthcare systems around the world. Continuous precise monitoring of the wound healing progress over time (specifically, changes of wound surface areas and volumes) will help clinicians to assess the efficacy of treatment procedure. Traditional 2D methods of wound surface/volume measurements are inaccurate and labor-intensive, Automatic 3D measurements provide more accurate and efficient ways but require additional equipment that can cost hundreds to thousands of dollars. The idea of the current project is to utilize smart phones equipped with 3D scanning capability (e.g., iPhoneX) for patients to capture 3D shapes and textures of wounds at home, which are then immediately sent to the cloud server for intelligent modeling and analysis. Doctors may use the analytical results for better decisions of patient treatments.
