The newest version of OS X is now available through the App Store if you prefer to install it yourself–an AppleID is required. Please note that this method does not include an automatic backup of your data. We recommend that you perform your own backup prior to upgrading.

Users of specialized (and principally, terminal-based) third-party applications should check compatibility before upgrading. In El Capitan, a new security layer has been implemented that may prevent these specialized applications from running properly, or at all.

If you prefer not to install this yourself on an L&S-managed machine, please submit a Request Software/Hardware Support form and we will schedule an appointment to backup your data and perform the upgrade.
