“The role of probabilistic phonotactics in the recognition of reduced pseudowords”

Abstract: This talk will examine lexical and sublexical influences on the recognition of spoken words in their canonical and reduced form. The primary sublexical influence on recognition that will be considered is probabilistic phonotactics (the likelihood of a given phoneme, or phoneme sequence, to occur in a given position within a word). Particular emphasis will be given to the role of probabilistic phonotactics in the recognition of variant and low-frequency forms.
