In addition to the services available to all students, faculty and staff, the following additional library services are available to UWM students, faculty and staff with disabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-accessible-computers\">Accessible Computers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All of the computers in the Learning Commons (1st floor, West Wing) have accessibility software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dell PCs<\/strong>: The following software is available:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/about\/ada\/jaws\/\">Jaws<\/a>\u2013 screen reading software<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/about\/ada\/zoomtext\/\">ZoomText<\/a>\u2013 magnifying software (2-36x)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Microsoft suite of accessible software: Magnifier, Narrator (screen reading software), on-screen keyboard, etc. are available. &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/accessibility\/windows\">https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/accessibility\/windows<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/about\/ada\/read-and-write-gold-pc-handout\/\">Read&amp;Write<\/a>\u2013 The program features text to speech, voice dictation, research aides, and highlighting tools. Click on start and choose \u201cRead&amp;Write\u201d from the Accessibility and Internet panel. Current UWM Students, faculty and staff can <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/about\/ada\/10-19-16-readwrite-gold-download-instructions-copy-1\/\">download a free copy of Read&amp;Write<\/a> for home use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Google Docs for Chrome \u2013 has a voice dictation program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Macs<\/strong>: The following software is available:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Voiceover \u2013 screen reading software built into MacOs.<a href=\"http:\/\/www.apple.com\/accessibility\/\"><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/about\/ada\/read-and-write-gold-mac-handout\/\">Read&amp;Write<\/a> \u2013 The program features text to speech, voice dictation, research aides, and highlighting tools. Click on the \u201cfinder\u201d icon in the shortcut Dock at the bottom of the screen. Click on \u201capplications\u201d under the favorites heading in the resulting window. Click on \u201cRead&amp;Write\u201d folder in the A-Z applications. Current UWM Students, faculty and staff can <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/about\/ada\/10-19-16-readwrite-gold-download-instructions-copy-1\/\">download a free copy of Read&amp;Write<\/a> for home use.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-other-accessible-computers-available\">Other Accessible Computers Available<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are 3 computers in the Learning Commons (Mac and Dell) with flatbed scanners .&nbsp; One is located in the South Commons by the windows facing Bolton Hall and two are in the North Commons by the windows facing the Library\u2019s east wing. The Dell computer in the North Commons is on an automated height adjustable tables(push button raising and lowering). Contact the computer help desk at the end of the circulation counter for assistance in accessing these computers if they are in use.  There is another automated height adjustable table in the South Commons by the windows facing Bolton Hall without a computer,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-adaptive-technology-loanable\">Adaptive Technology \u2013 Loanable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Library Laptops<\/strong> <strong>\u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/about\/ada\/laptop-accessibility-2019\/\">Laptop Accessibility<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Calculators \u2013 <\/strong>Calculators (Scientific, Graphing and Financial) are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk, first floor, west wing for 7 days.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Computer Mice \u2013 <\/strong>Logitech USB computer mice are available for checkout at Ethe Circulation Desk, first floor, west wing for 7 days.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Computer Keyboards <\/strong>&#8211; USB computer keyboards are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk, first floor, west wing for 7 days.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Audio Recorders<\/strong> \u2013 Zoom H2 Audio recorders are available for checkout at the Circulation Desk, first floor, west wing for 7 days.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-collections\">Collections<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-videos-and-audiobooks\">Videos and Audiobooks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Videos<\/strong> \u2013 There are over 10,000 VHS videos and DVDs available with closed-captioning; English subtitles for the hearing impaired (SDH) or English subtitles. There are also some videos that are in American Sign Language (ASL) as well. See the online catalog for more information.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Streaming Videos <\/strong>\u2013 The Library subscribes to the several streaming video collections that may offer captioned videos.&nbsp; See the <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/free-streaming\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/free-streaming\/\">Free Streaming Services<\/a> page. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Described Videos \u2013 <\/strong>Descriptive videos provide descriptive narration of key visual elements, making television programs, feature films, and other visual media accessible to people who are blind or visually impaired. Key visual elements such as actions, costumes, gestures, facial expressions and scene changes are inserted within the natural pauses in dialogue. For more information consult the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/about\/ada\/audio-description\/\">Audio Description\/Audio Described Videos handout<\/a>. &nbsp;Described videos are available from:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wisconsin Talking Book and Braille Library \u2013 free described video borrowing &nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/dpi.wi.gov\/talkingbooks\">http:\/\/dpi.wi.gov\/talkingbooks<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Described and Captioned Media Program \u2013 free loan (online or DVD copy) &nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dcmp.org\/\">https:\/\/dcmp.org\/<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-large-print-books\">Large Print Books<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are some large print books in the Libraries\u2019 collection.&nbsp; Consult the <a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsin-uwm.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/discovery\/search?vid=01UWI_ML:MIL\">Search@UW online catalog<\/a>&nbsp;using the search term \u201clarge type books\u201d to locate them. This same search term can be used to locate books from other Libraries.&nbsp; Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsin-uwm.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/discovery\/search?vid=01UWI_ML:MIL\">Search@UW online catalog<\/a>&nbsp; and choose the search parameter of Books and Media: UW-System or go to <a href=\"http:\/\/guides.library.uwm.edu\/go.php?c=2009890\">WorldCat<\/a> to search and request items through <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/ill\/\">Interlibrary Loan<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-databases\">Databases<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The library\u2019s databases present articles and abstracts in two different formats: PDF or HTML. HTML articles may be read by \u201cread aloud\u201d software very easily. PDFs can present some issues. PDF accessibility depends on how the articles were scanned. In some cases, security features (to prevent the document from being altered) may interfere with a PDFs accessibility. The software <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/about\/ada\/read-and-write-gold-pc-handout\/\">Read&amp;Write <\/a>can convert inaccessible PDFs for screen readers. Current UWM students, faculty and staff can <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/libraries\/about\/ada\/10-19-16-readwrite-gold-download-instructions-copy-1\/\">download a free copy of Read&amp;Write<\/a> for home use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some database vendors like Ebsco and Gale also have a built in read aloud or listen option for their Full Text HTML articles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ebooks\">eBooks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>eBooks are available from the Library.&nbsp; Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsin-uwm.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/discovery\/search?vid=01UWI_ML:MIL\">Search@UW online catalog<\/a> and the search term \u201cebooks\u201d to search for them.&nbsp; Some are available for online reading and\/or limited term download.&nbsp; Most ebook vendors follow accessibility guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-retrieving-and-renewing-materials\">Retrieving and Renewing Materials<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-retrieving-library-materials\">Retrieving Library Materials<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Materials in the Library can be requested to be pulled and available for pick up at the circulation desk. Requests are made through the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsin-uwm.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/discovery\/search?vid=01UWI_ML:MIL\">Search@UW online catalog<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-renewing-library-materials\">Renewing Library Materials<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Materials can be renewed through&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsin-uwm.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/discovery\/search?vid=01UWI_ML:MIL\">Search@UW online catalog<\/a>&nbsp;by clicking on the \u201cMy Account\u201d link at the top of the screen and logging in with your Panther login.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-facilities\">Facilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Automatic Doors&nbsp;<\/strong>to entrances and corridors are available on all floors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cutout Study Tables&nbsp;<\/strong>are available in the Lower Level, West Wing; and 2nd Floor, East Wing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Automated Height Adjustable Tables&nbsp;<\/strong>(push button raising and lowering) are available in the South Commons by the windows facing Bolton Hall and in the North Commons by the windows facing the Library\u2019s east wing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Drinking Fountains&nbsp;<\/strong>are located on all floors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Elevators<\/strong> \u2013 the main elevator to all floors, has accessible signs and controls as well as floor announcements. The small elevator has accessible signs and controls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Computer terminals&nbsp;<\/strong>with lower height access are available on the first floor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Restrooms <\/strong>with automatic door access are located on the 1st Floor, East Wing and restrooms with automatic door access, wide stalls and Braille signage are available in the Lower Level, West Wing; 2nd Floor, East and West Wings and 4th Floor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Service Animals<\/strong> \u2013 Service animals must stay in physical proximity with their handler and be under handler control at all times.
