UWM Libraries conducted a satisfaction survey from April 10 to May 30, 2024 to better understand how satisfied undergraduate students are with library services, collections, and spaces. Results from the survey will help shape future library services and contribute to improving student experiences.

FINDINGS FROM THE SURVEY

We heard from 617 students giving us a 95% confidence level in the findings. Most respondents describe themselves as moderate to heavy library users (68%). The majority of students (90%) agree that the library is a welcoming place and an important part of their UWM experience (80%). 71% can find what they need on the library website and 72% use the library multiple times a week.

STUDENTS TOLD US

Where we are performing well

  • Digital and print collections meet student academic needs
  • Providing help when needed
  • Making the library a welcoming space for all
  • Providing distraction-free study spaces

Where we can improve

  • Provide more quiet spaces to study alone
  • Improve course reserve offerings

HOW WE ARE RESPONDING

What we have already done

  • Third floor of the library is dedicated to quiet study
  • Investing in electronic course assigned texts to expand course reserve offerings
  • Added whiteboards to 2nd and 3rd floor study areas
  • Converted lower level private carrels to semi-private open study spaces for all students

What we have planned

  • Improve marketing of library help services
  • Evaluate the website design and usability
  • Create a sensory map designed for users with sensory sensitivities who are looking for study spaces that fit their needs
