Libraries Diversity Advisory Committee

The Libraries Diversity Advisory Committee  (lib-diversity@uwm.edu)  

The UWM Libraries Diversity Advisory Committee provides leadership in the area of equity and inclusion by devising overarching strategies, making recommendations, and raising the visibility of the Libraries’ diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.

The Committee hosts series and sessions with two goals: to inform library staff and campus populations of diversity issues, and to foster a supportive and inclusive environment for all library users.

Committee Charge:

  • Encourage an educational environment in the libraries that is supportive of users from various backgrounds and cultures.
  • Contribute to a work environment conducive to recruitment, hiring and retention of a multicultural workforce at all levels.
  • Assist the libraries in maintaining an atmosphere of friendly service to community users from diverse backgrounds.
  • Advise Director, Outreach & Community Engagement Librarian, and staff as appropriate, on implementation of the above concerns.

UWM Campus Centers and Support Resources
  • Accessibility Resource Center
    The Accessibility Resource Center at UWM is dedicated to providing equal access for students with disabilities to the University’s academic, social, cultural and recreational programs. It provides comprehensive services and accommodations for students with disabilities as well as outreach and support to faculty and staff.
  • American Indian Student Center 
    American Indian Student Services’ vision is to assist and support UWM American Indian students and to help make their communities stronger. The program provides potential and currently enrolled students with personalized support services which will help them realize their educational goals and make their UWM experience a fulfilling one.
  • Black Student Cultural Center
    The Black Student Cultural Center’s primary function is to serve as a resource for students of African descent by partnering with UWM units and departments, community organizations and local businesses. The Black Student Cultural Center provides student access to computers and a study/meeting area.
  • Center for International Education
    The Center for International Education at UWM is a comprehensive unit committed to developing, promoting and implementing international education initiatives for students, faculty and staff, and our community.
  • Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies
    Supported by the UWM College of Letters and Science and the U.S. Department of Education, CLACS serves each in an intertwined and overlapping way with Latin America and the Caribbean at its core. CLACS serves a large body of faculty across Schools/Colleges at UW-Milwaukee and from public and private institutions in the Upper Midwest region.
  • Inclusive Excellence Center
    The Inclusive Excellence Center is a student-centered office and its mission is to promote student development and engage the campus community on the topics of diversity, equity and social justice. The IEC fosters peer-to-peer connections and intercultural engagement. It is home to U1.
  • LGBT Resource Center
    The LGBTQ+ Resource Center’s dedication to the students’ experience goes far beyond just the Center. The staff actively engages with other departments on campus to create an affirming and welcoming educational environment for all students.
  • Military And Veterans Resource Center (MAVRC)
    The Military and Veterans Resource Center (MARVC) center provides support for veterans of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, National Guard and Coast Guard. Additionally, MARVC tprovides assistance for ROTC cadets, members of Military Reserve Units and the children and spouses of service members.
  • Norris Health Center
    The Norris Health Center assists students in identifying, understanding and responding to their health care needs through medical and mental health care and health promotion programs; and aids the UWM campus community through collaborative partnerships designed to enhance the university’s academic and community service mission.
  • Roberto Hernandez Center
    The Roberto Hernández Center is dedicated to serving Latinx/a/o students at UWM as well as the Latinx/a/o population of southeastern Wisconsin through a three-pronged mission: to provide academic services that promote Latinx/a/o student success, to engage in outreach to the Latina/o community and beyond and to support applied research pertinent to Latinxs/as/os.
  • Southeast Asian-American Student Center
    The Southeast Asian-American Student Services office provides recruitment and retention services which are essential in helping Southeast Asian-American (Cambodian, Hmong, Laotian and Vietnamese) students. To best serve students, the office works closely with the faculty, staff, and students at UWM, and Southeast Asian communities and leaders in Milwaukee and Wisconsin.
  • Women’s Resource Center
    The UWM Women’s Resource Center (WRC) exists to provide education, support, and advocacy to students. The center fosters an inclusive environment and celebrate community through events and programming. The WRC is a safe space; the staff is committed to working in a nonjudgmental, culturally sensitive and compassionate way.
