Duncan Tonatiuh: Children’s Author and Illustrator

Duncan Tonatiuh Duncan Tonatiuh was born in Mexico City and grew up in San Miguel de Allende. His work is inspired by Ancient Mexican art, particularly that of the Mixtec codex.

He aims to create images that both honor the past, and address contemporary issues that affect people of Mexican origin on both sides of the border.

His books include Funny Bones, Separate Is Never Equal, Pancho Rabbit and the Coyote: A Migrant’s Tale, Diego Rivera: His World and Ours, and Dear Primo: A Letter to My Cousin.

Tonatiuh’s work has consistently been recognized with the Pura Belpré, the Américas Award, and the Tomás Rivera Mexican American children’s book award.
