Academic Research Luncheon – Fall Into Research with the UWM Libraries and Web of Science: UWM at Waukesha Library

All sessions will be held in the UWM at Waukesha Library, Library Classroom (L108) in Northview Hall, 1500 N. University Dr., Waukesha, WI 53188.

1:00 to 2:30 PM      Tour the UWM at Waukesha campus (start times, TBD) and/or Pop Up Research Consultation: 1:1 with the UWM Libraries Research Services Team or Clarivate’s Expert Trainer

This session will highlight tools and specialized filters within the Web of Science database that can save you time and effort. Introductory Session Topics include:

  • How does Web of Science fit into the larger research landscape?
  • Tips for effective topic searching
  • Intro to citation indexing
  • Finding a known author’s work through Web of Science
  • Setting up search alerts to stay up to date on a topic
  • Kopernio: browser plug-in for one-click access to research articles
  • Identifying key players and centers of excellence in a research area

2:30 to 3:45 PM       Advanced Session

This session will highlight tools and specialized filters within the Web of Science database that can save you time and effort, and help to elevate your scholarly output. Advanced Session Topics include:

  • Tips for effective topic searching
  • Finding your own work and viewing citation performance statistics (h-index and average citations per item)
  • Create citation alerts to monitor citation activity around a paper
  • Identifying experts and potential collaborators
  • Discover sources of funding in your field
  • Viewing and understanding Journal Impact Factor
  • Link to relevant research data sets, data studies, and software on external repositories
