Collection Overview

  • Big Books include fiction and non-fiction
  • Board Books include fiction and non-fiction
  • Picture books are shelved by the author’s last name. Picture books can be identified by the orange labels on their spines, and they can be searched by the subject heading “picture books for children.”
  • Children’s and young adult fiction includes early readers
  • Children’s and young adult non-fiction includes foreign language materials as follows:

  • Reference materials include copies of the winners of the Americas Book Award. These copies are available for use within the UWM Libraries only. There are also circulating copies of many of them. Please search for them by title in the Libraries’ catalog to find out if the one that you want is available to check out.
  • Historical materials include over 3,000 books of award-winning children’s literature and early classics. These are shelved separately and can be accessed by request. Materials generally do not circulate.
