The UWM Open Textbook and OEAR Project is pleased to recognize Psychology 101 for reaching the $2,000,000 open textbook savings milestone. Psychology 101 faculty have been teaching with OpenStax Psychology since 2016, impacting 12,000 students over 26 semesters. OpenStax Psychology is published by Rice University under a Creative Commons license, making it free for faculty and students to use and distribute.

In addition to recognizing this $2 million landmark, the Libraries are celebrating International Open Access Week from Oct. 24-30, 2022. This year’s IOA week theme is “Open For Climate Justice.”

Psychology 101 was the first course at UWM to participate in the Open Textbook and OEAR project led by UWM Libraries and CETL. The program has grown in other courses as well. This fall, 26 UWM courses are using open or affordable materials, saving students thousands of dollars. The grand total since this project began in 2016 is $3,510,691.
