The UWM Libraries have acquired the Alexander Street Press’ Film Platform, a streaming media collection of documentary films by leading filmmakers from around the world, including many Oscar-nominated documentaries and film festival winners, such as Picture a Scientist (2020), Life, Animated (2016), and Mr. Soul! (2018).
The film’s subjects are wide-ranging, from art & architecture to Black studies to war & violence. Currently numbering 675 titles, the collection is continually added to and will eventually hold over 1000 films.
These films can be screened in classrooms, embedded into Canvas, or viewed independently by students or faculty. The acquisition of the collection was funded by a UWM Education Technology Fee grant.
The Alexander Street Press’ Film Platform is just one of the 30 streaming media collections available through the UWM Libraries, including American History in Video, Border and Migration Studies Online, and National Theatre Collection (UK).
