Libraries Announce 2019-20 Journal and Database Cancellations

After thoroughly considering the extensive feedback offered by the campus community this past spring, the UWM Libraries have finalized the list of cancelled subscriptions to journals and databases, based on their low use, high cost per use, and/or lack of strategic importance to research areas.

Depending on the subscription renewal cycle of the particular database or journal, most cancellations will become effective after January 1, 2020.

As a result of this effort, the Libraries reduced its collection expenditures by $125,000 and met its financial responsibilities, while maintaining a high-quality collection of resources. As always, any articles not available from our print collection or databases may be ordered through our interlibrary loan department.

We are grateful for the many thoughtful responses we received. Your feedback helped us make the best decisions possible for UWM students, faculty, researchers, and staff.

Although the list of cancelled subscriptions is final for this renewal period, we will continue to monitor requests for titles and changes in subscription costs, which will inform decisions during the next subscription renewal period.
