Food For Fines

Need to pay an overdue fine at the library? Want to help out food-insecure students? The UWM Libraries are offering patrons the opportunity to check off both boxes with a “Food for Fines” event, October 7-13, 2018.

During this week, the Libraries will accept food donations as payment for fees. One non-perishable food item will count as $2 towards overdue fine payment (but not replacement fees).

The food will then be given to the UWM Food Center and Pantry, which supplies needy students with free food.

Needed Items:

  • Low-sodium soups
  • Canned Vegetables
  • Canned fruit in their own juice
  • Rice or quinoa
  • Canned tuna and chicken
  • Whole-grain pasta
  • Peanut Butter
  • Non-frozen microwavable meals
  • Cooking oils and spices
  • Shampoo, body wash, toothbrushes, toothpaste
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Baby formula and baby food

Make sure the items are not past their expiration date.

Donations are welcome even if you don’t have fines.

The Food Center’s fall food drive takes place during the entire month of October.
