As a senior staff member in the UWM College of Letters and Science, I am responsible for providing academic and career advising for pre-professional health students. I hold a graduate degree in Educational Psychology and have completed post-graduate coursework in the Urban Education doctoral program at UW-Milwaukee.
In addition to providing the academic information necessary to complete UWM degree requirements, I provide students with information about their intended professional field of studies. This includes instruction regarding the application process to professional school, admission requirements, and career advising. Given the very competitive nature of gaining admission to various professional programs, I strongly encourage students to meet with me on a regular basis.
As a strong proponent of experiential learning, I have been instrumental in the development of internships and mentoring programs for students. Examples of these programs include: The UWM/Medical Society of Milwaukee County Mentoring program for pre-medical students, hospice Internships, training with the Prevent Blindness Wisconsin organization for vision screening certification, a Mentoring Program with the American Association of Podiatric Medicine and the Introduction to Pharmacy course for pre-pharmacy students. In addition many UWM pre-health students are hired for paid positions through medical scribe companies.
