DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a special conversation with renowned South African author Dr. Sindiwe Magona.  Dr. Magona has written over 130 children’s books in addition to her acclaimed novels\, autobiographical works\, essays\, biographies\, and plays.  She is a leading voice on social issues in South Africa\, addressing a wide range of themes including poverty\, race\, HIV/AIDS and the rights of women and children.  \nThis program is being organized in conjunction with UWM’s new International Children’s and Young Adult Literature collection\, supported through a Title VI U.S. Department of Education National Resource Center grant.  Free and open to the public.  Children welcome.

SUMMARY:Home Movie Day
DESCRIPTION:Attendees are invited to bring home movies in the form of 8mm\, Super 8mm\, 16mm\, VHS\, Mini-DV\, or digital files\, have the materials inspected/repaired by UWM volunteers\, and then screened with an audience while the owner narrates. \nThroughout the day\, volunteers will give quick explanations of how to take care of film\, video\, and digital files\, and ideas on where one can get their old media transferred. There will also be a recurring raffle and Home Movie Day Bingo for prizes! \nFilms will be screened on a first come first serve basis based on projector availability.
