DESCRIPTION:Friends of Art History Guest Lecture\nLandscapes of Extraction: Mining and Empire in Romantic Britain\nStephanie O’Rourke\, Professor of Art History\, University of St. Andrews \nDr. Stephanie O’Rourke is a historian of European art particularly in relation to resource extraction\, scientific knowledge\, and media technologies in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. She also collaborates with artists and climate scientists to explore landscapes of extraction in the present day. She contributed an essay to the catalogue for the Milwaukee Art Museum exhibition Seeking Revelation: German Romantic Prints and Drawings (on view through November 1\, 2026). \nThe lecture is sponsored by the Department of Art History and Friends of Art History in coordination with the Milwaukee Art Museum.
